Entry Form Deadline
March 31st 2007 only the entry form and entrance fee is required.
Please Note: Do not send work at this point.
- First stage
Deadline for submission of photographic images of your work:
June 30th 2007
Photography:
Ensure that the image shows as much of the overall embroidery
as possible without 'arty' distortion!
Do not take very close up images/ Do not split images into multiple
frames.
Each entry is limited in the first stage to not more than:
1. 5 x 35mm transparencies.
2. OR a CD rom of 5 x images.
3. OR 5 x j-peg e-mail images We will not accept any other format
than j-peg.
" Each j-peg should be 1600 x 1200 pixels.
" When saving your files for CD or for e-mail use the following
naming convention e.g. jo_smith001.jpg ( firstname_lastname001.jpg
firstname_lastname002.jpg and so on ).
" In all cases please include at least 3 pictures of finished
work and 2 of supporting embroidery samples/or development.
" You must include your name and candidate number on the
accompanying email.
" Proof of posting is not accepted as proof of entry.
" e-mail all images to comp@handembroidery.com
" For transparencies and CDs post to Hand & Lock (address
on Entry Requirements page).
We regret that we are unable to return images unless submitted
with a (SAE) stamped addresses envelope.
DO NOT SEND FINISHED PIECES OF WORK AT THIS STAGE
- Second stage
You will be notified by post / email if selected for second
stage by July 17th 2007.
Deadline for final submission of work: 15th August 2007
" You will be required to submit your finished work and
all its support material at this stage. All work must carry
your name, college and contact telephone/email details.
" Provide an Artists Statement of not more than 100 words,
to state their inspiration and why techniques are used.
" Each entry is limited to the size that can be mailed
by the Post Office by Recorded or Special Delivery. There should
be no breakable materials e.g. glass.
" Overseas entries please note - when sending parcels ensure
that you state that the contents have 'NO COMMERCIAL VALUE'
adding a nominal value of $2.00 in any customs declarations.
- Return of entry
Entries will be returned ONLY if provided with a self addressed
envelope at the time of submission, and/or credit/debit card
details, to cover the cost of return whether recorded, special
delivery post. OR work can be collected from Hand & Lock
office within two months from the date of judging. The winner's
entries may be held by Hand & Lock for one year from date
of entry and may be exhibited at our sole discretion.
- Insurance
Entrants are advised to insure their own entries.
- Disclaimer
We will handle all entries with the utmost care, however we
cannot be responsible for items that are lost, stolen or damaged
whilst in transit, on exhibit, or whilst in possession of Hand
& Lock.
- Gallery
All second stage entrants' work will be shown on www.handembroidery.com/comp2007/index.htm
- Judging
" Judging will take place in September 2007.
" The Judges are representatives from the sponsors and
organisers of the competition;

The Royal School of Needlework The Victoria & Albert Museum
Marion Thomas Couture Embroidery Magazine
Madeira UK Ltd
" All Judges will sign those entries judged.
" Points will be awarded as defined in judging guidelines.
" The highest and lowest marks will be deleted to ensure
evenness of marking.
" The prize winner will be decided by the Judges and in
the absence of agreement, by the Chairman of the Judges, whose
decision shall be final.
- Judging Criteria
" Interpretation of the brief and overall impact - 50
" Design development - 15
" Technique - 10
" Materials - 10
" Presentation - 10
" Commercial viability - 5
- Winners
The First, Second and Third place winners will be notified by
telephone or email in September 2007.
The winner's work will be published on the Hand & Lock website.
The prizes will be awarded on November 5th 2007 at the Powerhouse
Museum in Sydney Australia.
Winners will provide a biography and photograph of themselves
for use in publicity and promotion.
Hand & Lock reserves the right to use photographs of all
entries in promotion and advertising.
The intellectual property rights in the works will rest in Hand
& Lock.
Prize winners shall make themselves available for publicity
and promotion. Expenses only to be paid, there will be no appearance
fees paid.
The prizes shall be subject to variation/cancellation, without
notice by Hand & Lock
