2007 Conference
![]()
It was a great opportunity to listen to a varied selection of some of the world’s most knowledgeable experts in embroidery and fashion, and a chance to spread the word about the Hand & Lock Prize for Embroidery further around the world. The 2007 Conference, ‘Embroidering…the future’ set the standard for future conferences and built a platform which is sure to attract more experts for the 2008 conference at the London College of Fashion.
With most of the ground work prepared in London, and arrangements organised and put in place in Australia by Chairman Alastair Macleod, myself and Sana Udin, assistant designer at Hand & Lock set off for Sydney with the three 2007 Prize Winners to Join up with the conference Lecturers & prepare for what was to be, as far as we know, the first Conference of its kind focused on embroidery
The Conference gathered together 7 different Lecturers, all experts in their own field to give illustrated talks on each of their specialised areas of knowledge. Proceedings began with an introduction from Christine Sumner of the powerhouse museum who introduced Chairman Alastair Macleod, dressed in a richly gold embroidered diplomatic uniform, created by Artisans from both Hand & Lock and Henry Poole and Company. Below are several photographs of the conference and prizegiving.
