March the first London Cut exhibition, was held last year in Italy followed by the British Embassy in Paris.
Hand & Lock have worked with Savile Row since its inception and this year as part of the London Cut exhibition we have collaborated with Anderson and Sheppard, to produce a modern equivalent of the smoking jacket which has been Anderson & Shepherd’s province for many years. It is the first time this has been done for 60 years. the basis of the design is military frogging which has been embroidered rather than using cord which allows a softer feel
« We are hoping for a big increase in our ‘coatwork’ , some of you may be interested to know we have an archive of embroideries dating back to around 1790. We produced a magnificent Serbian diplomatic coat last year which was hand tailored by Henry Poole of Savile Row, I took great pride in wearing it at the Conference Embroidering … the Future held at Sydney Powerhouse Museum. This is an old traditional way at which diplomats could be rapidly recognized by the designs on their coats, while this may not apply in this ever changing world we are hopeful that this c type of work can be resurrected .” says our Chairman, Alastair Macleod.
